Government optimism over the approval of “dozens” of beef plants by China

Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) Carlos Fávaro projects that Brazil should have “a few dozen” additional beef packing plants authorized to export to China in 2025. The statement was made last week during a public hearing before the Senate Agriculture Committee, which invited the minister to present the ministry’s plans for the next two years.

“We have a new list of around 44 plants that already comply with Brazilian regulations and could be approved. We should have at least a few dozen more approved this year,” Fávaro noted.

The minister also described the current international situation as “a trade war between the United States and the world” and said that Brazil can benefit from the situation. Fávaro mentioned the deauthorization of U.S. plants that exported beef to China and believes that those protein purchases may shift to Brazilian establishments.

“Last Monday, [the Chinese and the Americans] had a prelisting authorization model, but it wasn’t renewed. As a result, 400 North American meat packing plants were prevented from selling to China. Obviously, this will likely shift to Brazil,” he said.
