Brazil secures Vietnam market for its beef

Brazil now has a new market for beef. An agreement signed between the Brazilian and Vietnamese governments formalized the opening of Vietnam to imports of the product. According to the Brazilian Beef Exporters Association (ABIEC), they expect up to 300,000 metric tons of Brazilian beef to be exported to the Asian country. The measure could increase ranchers’ incomes, diversify export destinations, and attract new investments in the national meatpacking industry, said the exporters’ association. For its president, Roberto Perosa, entering the Vietnamese market represents a strategic opportunity. “Brazilian producers will have more channels to send products abroad, which helps balance the domestic supply and increase export revenues to Asia,” he said. The executive accompanied President Lula Da Silva’s delegation in Vietnam. According to Perosa, Vietnam can serve as a logistics platform for Southeast Asia, facilitating the distribution of Brazilian beef in the region.

The opening of the market also strengthens Brazil’s position as a global protein supplier. The agreement is part of the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Strategic Partnership between both countries. Vietnam already ranks fifth among the main destinations of Brazilian agribusiness, with emphasis on exports of soybeans, pork, chicken, and cotton.
