Israel’s potential for chilled beef highlighted

After 15 months of war, commercial and social activity in Israel is seeking a return to “normal,” which opens the door to greater dynamism in the consumption of beef and lamb. Kosher and halal slaughter consultant Felipe Kleiman spoke to radio Carve on Tuesday about the “potential” he sees for chilled beef from South America. The operator mentioned retail prices paid by consumers for locally produced chilled entrecôte, ranging from US$44.5 to US$55.3 per kg, depending on the type of kosher certification it carries, while local chilled ossobuco sells for US$20 per kg. “Local slaughter is growing and plants are expanding,” he explained, something that should be positive for the opening of live exports that has just been approved for Uruguay. Meanwhile, other cuts such as frozen kosher oyster blade sell in a range of US$19 to 33 per kg, while portioned lamb neck sells at US$24 per kg. Kosher beef tongue, meanwhile, goes for US$27 to 33 per kg at retail.
