Commission of the OIE approves recognition of Brazil and Bolivia as FMD-free without vaccination
The Scientific Commission of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) approved a request from Brazil and Bolivia for international recognition as areas free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, reported the Mato Grosso Federation of Agriculture and Livestock (Famato), which is closely monitoring progress on that request.
According to the federation, in a statement, the certification will have a positive impact on the state’s livestock production, expanding access to more demanding international markets and strengthening producers’ competitiveness. “The measure represents a significant advance in the certification process but still depends on the final approval of OIE member countries at the General Assembly, scheduled for May of this year,” the statement noted, as reported by Estadão.
