Agribusiness caucus distances itself from Fávaro
The Parliamentary Front for Agriculture (FPA) decided, in a closed-door meeting last week, to distance itself from the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro. The president of the FPA, Congressman Pedro Lupion (PP-PR), stated that the sector now maintains priority dialogue with the Ministry of Hacienda. “The Ministry of Agriculture was left in the background,” Lupion told CNN Brasil, adding that there is no direct relationship between the caucus and Fávaro’s ministry.
The distancing took place after the Secretariat of Hacienda, linked to the Ministry of Finance, suspended the subsidized credit lines of the 2024/25 Crop Plan last week. The measure was criticized by the FPA and the National Confederation of Agriculture (CNA), prompting a response from Fávaro. In an interview with CNN, the minister declared that the FPA had become an opposition front. Under pressure, the government issued a Provisional Measure to release extraordinary credit for the Crop Plan. Lupion noted that despite the confrontation, the caucus chose to focus on dialogue with Hacienda and the Presidential Palace. “Many wanted to stoke the fight, but common sense prevailed and left the minister speaking on his own,” he concluded.
