Trump said he gave a “small reprieve” by postponing tariffs on Mexico and Canada

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that tariffs on certain Canadian and Mexican products slated for April 2 “could go up,” and he made no comment as to whether the United States would face a recession in 2025. In an interview aired on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo,” Trump said reciprocal tariffs would take effect on April 2 and that the one-month postponement granted to Mexico and Canada was a “small reprieve,” as reported by CNN.

In February, Trump announced 25% tariffs on the neighboring countries of the United States. These tariffs were delayed by one month and imposed last Tuesday, until Trump decided on Wednesday to pause tariffs for automakers by another month. Nevertheless, Trump changed course again on Thursday, pausing tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods covered by the USMCA trade agreement until April.
