Philippines’ beef imports grow 35 % year over year

Philippine meat imports in the first two months of 2025 rose by one third from a year earlier to more than 230,000 tons, driven by larger purchases of pork and chicken, according to the Bureau of Animal Industry data.

Pork imports —which accounted for half of all inbound meat— expanded 48% year over year to 124,047 tons. Traders and importers said the country will keep relying on foreign supplies because domestic production remains insufficient following the African swine fever crisis.

Chicken imports climbed more than 20% to 77,310 tons. Over half of that volume was mechanically deboned meat, an essential ingredient for processors making products such as sausages and meat loaf.

Beef imports likewise rose 35% year over year to 32,386 tons.

Brazil was the leading supplier during January–February 2025 with 101,306 tons, followed by the United States with 33,992 tons.
